The Spanish Brass
The Spanish Brass
Spain's beloved Brass Quintet

Friday, October 15, 2010
7:30pm - Corpus Christi Cathedral
No Charge

The New York Times wrote "stunning" and "a magnificent ensemble, a brilliant winner!", the Spanish Brass is one of world's foremost brass quintets. Since winning the First Prize in the 6th "Ville de Narbonne" (France) International Competition for Brass Quintets in 1996, considered the world's most prestigious event of its type, they have performed worldwide and are recognized as one of the most dynamic and established brass ensembles on the international scene. Their many US tours have made them a favorite of American audiences. With their eclectic repertoire and state-of-the-art staging, concert attendees will experience "a concert scene upside down (musicians standing on their head), making child's play of difficult music (involving kids from the audience), flooring audiences (and themselves) with their incredible stage presence! A great opener for our 27th Resounding Season for the entire family!

Vienna Boys Choir
The World's Most Beloved Choir

Friday - February 18, 2011
7:30 pm - Corpus Christi Cathedral
No Charge

Vienna Boy's Choir

The world's most beloved choir returns to their TEXAS home - the newly refurbished acoustical setting of Corpus Christi Cathedral, where attendees will experience their heavenly voices with an all new program. Thrilling audiences for over 500 years, in 1498, more than half a millennium ago, Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court musicians from Innsbruck to Vienna. He gave specific instructions that there were to be six boys among his musicians - the Vienna Boys Choir. Until 1918, the choir sang exclusively for the imperial court, at mass, at private concerts and functions and on state occasions. Today there are around 100 choristers between the ages of ten and fourteen, divided into four touring choirs. The four choirs give around 300 concerts and performances each year in front of almost half a million people. Each group spends nine to eleven weeks of the school year on tour. They visit virtually all European countries, and they are frequent guests in Asia, Australia and the Americas. Their Cathedral program will include everything from medieval to contemporary songs highlighted with the great Viennese waltz's of Johann Strauss and a fully staged Children's Opera.

Angels

A Concert Tribute to our Choir of Angels
Featuring the Cathedral Choirs and Festival Orchestra
Directed by Lee Gwozdz and Dr. Guadalupe Rivera, Jr.

Sunday - May 22, 2011
6:00 pm - Corpus Christi Cathedral
No Charge

Celebrating the lives and memories of Cathedral Choir members who have passed on, the Cathedral Choirs and Festival Orchestra will pay tribute to their loved ones with music of eternity among which will feature Gabriel Faure's REQUIEM. Of the many settings of the Requiem, this is probably the most widely loved. In comparison with the large-scale masterpieces of Verdi, Brahms and Berlioz, Faure's setting seems gentle and unassuming, yet it is this very quality of understatement which contributes so eloquently to the work's universal appeal. Attendees will be moved by the ethereal beauty of this humble masterpiece. The Cathedral Youth Chorale will perform this work in the Summer of 2011 at Disney Hall in Los Angeles as a part of the Pueri Cantores High School National Festival under the direction of Maestro Paul Salamunovich, assisted by Lee Gwozdz.
